Lacerte art contemporain (Québec) is proud to present the recent works of the artist François Chevalier, gathered under the title Poussière de ants. This exhibition brings together several photographs and works on paper.
» What were you doing during hot weather ?
She told the worker.
– Day and night to all comers
I was working, please.
– You were working? I am glad.
Well! Die now. «
After a canine interlude (Méchant loup, 2010) and a long episode of silence, François Chevalier reconnects with his theme of predilection, the one that has always obsessed him: insects. The revoici in his universe of the tiny that carries all the existential fixations of the artist since its beginnings.
But today his subjects are no longer the winged ladies whose finesse and transparency are dreaming. The ants are sterile and without wings. Only the queen has wings the time to found the colony and lay its eggs which will become so many small soldiers armed for the incessant work. The social body is the thinking entity. Each individual lives and dies, however, after having given everything to this social body. You will become dust again … It is in the order of things that Chevalier works on the body, after dreaming of lightness and transparency: Ants represent the true nature of our condition.
