Ron (Ronald) Martin was born in London (Ontario) in 1943. During the past four decades, the artist explored painting with rigor and consistency, giving birth to a remarkable corpus of works. His work has been exhibited all across the country, in particular during a major solo exhibition of his series of black paintings (1971-1981), organized by the Museum of Fine Arts Ontario and presented on tour, from 1989 till 1991 in Vancouver Art Gallery, in the National Gallery of Canada and in the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. Ron Martin also acquired an international fame when he represented Canada to the Venice Biennale in 1978. Ron Martin received the Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts in 2012. The artist lives and works in Toronto.
