Marcel Barbeau was born in Montreal in 1925. Student of Borduas at the École du meuble from 1942 till 1947. He’s a member of the Montreal group Automatistes with Borduas, Leduc, Riopelle, Mousseau and Pierre Gauvreau. Signatory of the Refus Global, he stands out at the beginning of the 60s as the ambassador of the movement Hard Edge. Its works were exposed in Canada, in the United States, in Europe and in North Africa in collective and individual exhibitions.
